Building a Signal Box from scrap timber |
|||||||||||||
Having a load of off cuts I decided
to make a signal box that over hung the track as there was not really enough
room between the track edge and the garage.
The height above the guards van roof is much t oo high so after some research I decide that a clearance of 250mm from track bed to under side to floor of the signal box should suite all loco I know about. |

The Signal box has been lowered by some 45mm and the upper part built. |

This series of photos shows the straight forward and bold construction. The two lead weight are to stop the unit falling forwards over the track. |

The unpainted finished signal box |

The out side has a weather proof
stain varnish and the inside was similarly coated and then given a coat of
cream egg shell print.
The roof is to the terracotta ceramics which is currently drying out be fore being put into the kiln. |

The external parts of the signal
box are now compete and it is hoped weather proof.
The windows are glazed with glass and the roof covered with ceramics terracotta to look like red corrugated iron. |

Another view showing that the roof
is in sections and each link to the next with a run of sealant to hopefully
keep rain water out.
The inside will be equipped with a rack of levers, lighting and signal man. To the out side a signal is to be placed. |

Signal box by moon light!!! The interior is light by two grain of wheat bulb 12V running on 9V to give a glow rather than a bright light. All that remains is to build and interior and employ a signal man prepared to work nights on the DLR !!! | |||||||||||||
